Good to know

Discount savings and your insurance

Fill Local Rx is a prescription discount program. When you pay with a discount program, the prescription is paid outside your prescription insurance benefit. That means the amount generally does not count automatically toward your plan’s deductible or out-of-pocket limit.

For many people, today’s lower price is the right choice. If benefit accumulation matters to you, ask your plan how it handles cash receipts. Your pharmacist can explain both prices, but questions about how your plan treats a purchase are best answered by your insurer.

Medicare Part D members should know that a cash purchase outside the Part D benefit is a different transaction from a covered claim. Read more in our guide, Cash Prescriptions Are Growing. Is Your Pharmacy Ready?

Why it matters

Savings that help your local pharmacy stay open

Some discount cards pay pharmacies less than what the medicine costs them. Fill Local Rx was built to be fair to both sides: patients save, and the pharmacy is reimbursed with NADAC-based pricing and keeps the rebate value. When your pharmacy thrives, your community keeps its trusted pharmacist.

Questions about prescription savings

How does Fill Local Rx benefit patients?

Fill Local Rx instantly saves patients up to 80% on prescriptions. There is no prior enrollment required, no fees and no formulary restrictions.

Does a discount-card purchase count toward my insurance deductible?

A prescription paid with a discount program is a cash purchase made outside your prescription insurance benefit, so it generally does not count automatically toward your deductible or out-of-pocket limit. Ask your plan how it handles cash receipts.

Is a discount-card price the same as paying straight cash?

Not quite. A straight cash prescription uses the pharmacy’s own cash price. A discount-card prescription is processed through the card’s pricing arrangement. Either way, the purchase is made outside your insurance benefit.

Can I use a discount program if I have insurance?

Often, yes. Your pharmacy can compare what you would owe through your insurance with the discount price so you can choose. If you pay with the discount program, the purchase is outside your insurance benefit and may not count toward your deductible or out-of-pocket limit.
